Our (too) short stay at Capella Singapore!

We spent three nights at the Capella Hotel, Singapore. Our only regret is not having spent more time there!

This summer, we decided to make a long and beautiful trip with our four-year-old son, taking him to visit Singapore and Bali.

We spent four days in Singapore, though we could have easily extended our stay by week, as this city is rich in activities and discoveries for the whole family. The guide dedicated to Singapore and published by Little Guest had been very helpful when preparing for our outings. I particularly recommend ‘Gardens by the Bay’, beautiful gardens where you can stroll, and which offer a breathtaking walk along the peaks.

Hotel Capella is nestled on Sentosa Island, a place unspoiled by the hustle and bustle of the megalopolis, but only a 10-minute taxi ride from the city center. Sentosa presents originality, in being connected to Singapore by a funicular, a somewhat original means of transport that our son Achilles loved! This island is entirely dedicated to relaxation and fun, with its zoo, water park and Universal Studios amusement park.

Inaugurated some ten years ago, the Capella is a unique hotel. We are accustomed to travelling around the world, but so far, we have never seen such a fantastic hotel. Here, everything is a pleasant surprise. Colonial architecture blends with ultra-contemporary lines. The vegetation is so dense that you have the feeling of living in the middle of the jungle. The bird’s eye view of the hotel’s swimming pools and the Sentosa Bay is breathtaking. The friendliness of the staff and the level of comfort are worthy of the largest world class hotel facilities. And what about the direct access to the beautiful Palawan beach, where you will find a mix of coconut palms, white sand and gigantic merchant?

Each day, free activities are organized to entertain young and old: cooking classes for children, rum tasting for Dad and Mom, family painting workshop, etc.

All three of us really loved being in the hotel’s lounging room. This place with its colonial architecture reminds us of the time when the English still occupied the region. Fresh drinks, tea and coffee are served free of charge throughout the day. In the morning, pastries and fruit are available for self-service. During the ‘afternoon tea’ period, smoked salmon sandwiches, homemade cookies and pastries are available. During our stay, we had the pleasure of learning that the free offers also applies at the minibar of our room; to fruits, ice creams and water served by the pool; but also to exceptional dishes served according to a catalog list; at breakfast like scrambled eggs with truffles (a must-taste!) and avocado toasts.

I was very pleased to find out that the Capella is the only hotel in Singapore that offers exclusive Aesop cosmetics. This Australian brand is my favorite! Aesop amenities products are available in the room and are also available in common areas. The 50-index solar cream that’s offered at the pool is also worth mentioning! Speaking of the pool, I must tell you that an area with a depth of 40cm is specially reserved for children. A boon for apprentice swimmers!

Upon our arrival, our son received a nice plush peacock, in reference to the two peacocks, real ones, that were strutting in the gardens of the hotel. By booking our stay via Little Guest, we were fortunate to be upgraded to a 1-bedroom villa with private pool. This accommodation of 130m2 offers unparalleled comfort. Our son slept in the living room and had a lot of fun hiding in the teepee set up for him in the room.

The hotel’s two restaurants each have a child-friendly (children’s) menu. A nice puzzle, a coloring book and pastel pencils were offered to our child from our first meal. Attention that matters.

On the second day, a gift was placed in our room: a porcelain plate commemorating the meeting between US President Donald Trump and his North Korean counterpart. It was here, at the Capella, that Presidents Trump and Kim Jung-Un met for the first time in June 2018 and signed a non-aggression treaty.

Our days in Singapore were punctuated by our desires. In the morning, we relaxed at the hotel pool before visiting the city. In the afternoon, we enjoyed the spa or the Capella tennis court. In the evening we ate in town or at the hotel. Each time we returned to the Capella; we felt a pleasant feeling of peace. The impression of leaving the urban jungle to return to our own jungle. A 5-star jungle that stirs up contemplation and letting go. This is the main asset of this urban resort: combining all the benefits of the city and all those of nature.

Our stay in Capella will remain engraved in our memories. The change of scenery was a complete one. Our only wish henceforth is to revisit the facility another time!
