Our long weekend at Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa

At the end of August, me, my wife and our son spent 3 nights at the famous Brenners Hotel. Here is the report of our stay, which I hope will also make you want to discover this beautiful address.

Just before the start of the school year in September, we wanted to enjoy a few last days of rest in a bucolic setting close to home. The spa town of Baden-Baden met all the requirements. So, we drove the 450 km from our home to the hotel in a luxury family car.

When you stay at the Brenners, you find yourself in the heart of Baden-Baden and you don’t need a car to visit the city. Nevertheless, having a car on site is convenient (if you decide to park your car at the hotel, it will cost you €26/day) to drive along the winding roads leading to the nearby famous Black Forest. During our stay, we also travelled these roads to go tobogganing in the summer and then have a picnic at Lake Mummel. An excursion that was recommended to us by the hotel concierge and that I would recommend to you as well!

The Brenners Park Hotel is a mythical place. It is the most beautiful hotel in the city and one of the most prestigious palaces in Germany. Nevertheless, children here are not looked down on when they are having fun running around in the lobby or bickering in the restaurant. It’s quite the opposite: everything is done to make their stay perfect.

When we arrived in our suite, delicious homemade cookies and a bottle of homemade apple juice had been prepared for our son. We stayed in a very spacious 60 sqm Junior Suite. Our son slept in a single bed in the living room. A precious fabric curtain separated the parents’ bedroom from the living room. The suite consisted of a long corridor, a huge dressing room and a large bathroom. It also featured a terrace offering a beautiful view on Baden-Baden’s park. At nightfall, electric shutters allowed us to plunge the room into darkness. This suite was really perfect for the three of us. We could even have stayed there with an extra child as the space was so generous and well thought out.

A repertoire of kids-friendly tips had been left in our room before our arrival. An original initiative to easily discover the best playgrounds in the neighbourhood, but also the contact details of the best toy shops and trusted pediatricians.

During our stay, the hotel’s kids-club was closed for renovations, but the concierge had prepared a list of activities specially adapted to our five-year-old son: a guided tour of the museum of contemporary art with a children’s workshop, a ride in a vintage van and a picnic in the mountains, or a popcorn party. This last activity was really great. The hotel provided us with a small projection room for one evening and had prepared popcorn and sweets for Achille. We even had dinner in this private room, using room service.

The next day, while it was raining, our son was invited to participate in a baking workshop in the Brenners’ kitchens. He had fun making the same cookies that he had received in his room and was very proud of his creations.

The indoor swimming pool is very large. The children can use it all day long and during certain times of the day they can even go crazy! It is the famous « splash time » (to be booked in advance).  Jump in the water, splash around, have fun with the water games at their disposal… everything is allowed!

Our son also enjoyed cuddling Kleopatre, the hotel’s angora cat who likes to walk the corridors (but is not allowed in the restaurants).

On the spot, Achille made friends. They often played pool together, when they were not exploiting the many hiding places in the hotel park.

In Baden-Baden you feel a little bit out of time. Many of the streets in the city centre are pedestrianised and you can meet people going to the thermal baths, regulars and people who come here to recharge their batteries. This is the perfect setting for a slow life weekend.

The Brenners has an exceptional spa. We didn’t test the massages but we really enjoyed our sauna sessions in a very elegant setting. The gym is also beautiful and very well equipped.

The hotel features 3 restaurants. I particularly recommend you to taste the meat from the Fritz Felix restaurant, cooked to perfection in an impressive barbecue protected by a large bay window in the tasting room.

The afternoon tea, served under the elegant glass roof of the Wintergarten restaurant, is also worth a visit.

If you like to discover mythical hotels and are in need of peace and quiet, the Brenners is really for you! We will long remember our perfect stay here.

Have a nice holiday at Brenners!
