Our dream stay at Hôtel Barrière L’Hermitage La Baule

Jérome, father of Achille, aged 9, from Brussels

In July, we spent a long weekend in La Baule.

We’d heard a lot about this seaside resort with its family atmosphere and relaxed chic. These adjectives aptly describe the Hermitage Barrière hotel.

« Why go far away when paradise is sometimes at your feet? That’s the first sentence that came to mind when I discovered the magnificent view of the azure blue sea from the balcony of our room.

The hotel is ideally positioned along a pedestrian promenade and offers direct access to the beach.

The place feels like an intimate resort, frequented by regulars who come to recharge their batteries. There are lots of families with children of all ages, from babies to teenagers.

The children’s club manager, Baptiste, plays his role to perfection. The activities are varied and many of them take place outdoors, on the beach or on the belvedere, a magnificent stretch of grass overlooking the sea. In the evening, pony rides are even organised.

During our stay, the Little Guest Race was held, organised by Little Guest in collaboration with the Hermitage hotel.

During this crazy race, the children ride adorable Samsonite kids’ suitcases and compete against each other in good spirits. Laughter guaranteed!

The valet/baggage service is top notch (special mention to Hervé and Louis).

I recommend that you leave your car in the car park and borrow the lovely bicycles offered by the hotel as it is so easy to get to the centre of La Baule via the coastal promenade.

« The cuisine is excellent and the beach restaurant is very pleasant! »

The staff as a whole are extremely friendly and kind.

I suggest you stay on a half or even full board basis as there are plenty of options for eating. The food is excellent and the beach restaurant is very pleasant.

The exterior architecture of the establishment is traditional, but the interior design has several well-balanced modern touches. The atmosphere is more relaxed, more seaside, more idle than that of some of the other Barrière hotels we have visited in the past.

By the outdoor swimming pool, children play with their grandparents, while parents relax on their deckchairs, and groups of friends chat over an aperitif. This light-hearted atmosphere coexists with impeccable hotel service.

Hats off to the hotel managers for achieving such a feat.

The gym offers a beautiful view of the pool and the sea. The Diane Barrière spa offers highly fashionable treatments from the Biologique Recherche brand.

Evening activities include live music concerts and intimate film screenings with famous French actors. During our stay, Zabou Breitman was there to present one of her films.

Our only regret is that we booked such a short stay! We made a promise to ourselves to return to the Hôtel Barrière Hermitage La Baule for a whole week.

See you soon La Baule!

Jérome
