All the thrills at Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers

Last November, thanks to the direct flight with Air Belgium from the Brussels Airport, I’ve had the chance to take part to a group trip and fly to the Mauritius Island. That even was the best time for us to fly there since this period of the year marked the beginning of the Mauritian summer, this season spanning from October to April on the island, and heat strikes around December. It was a first for me on the island, but mostly a wonderful discovery with one of the most beautiful Club Med resorts, to say the least.

The Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers is located just nearby the Grand Baie village and on the shores of one of the most pretty northeastern beaches, and to take us there, Club Med took the speedboat out for us to reach the island all the way from Albion. After a sensational transfer of around an hour during which we could admire the beauties of the coasts and the impressive landforms, we eventually reached our destination. We would be kindly greeted by the cheering of the very friendly team of the resort and by offering us refreshing drinks and wet towels on the pontoon giving access to the beach of the hotel.

Our luggage had arrived in a shuttle and were immediately sent to our respective room. My stay was on an all-inclusive formula, but how relieving it is to know that everything is being taken care of this good!

The Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers offer to their host a great variety of rooms and suites, all comfortable and well furnished, the majority of which have recently been renovated. They now provide families with connecting rooms, which makes things much easier when travelling which children! Besides having a great luminosity, the spaces are subtly decorated with exotic wood furniture and exotic plants. Greeting me with a welcoming letter and a map of the resort, my own superior room was as beautiful! Just a tiny downside, the wardrobe hadn’t been aerated, but such a small detail had had no impact whatsoever on my whole stay, which was stunning on every aspect.

Since we arrived at noon or so and that our way from Albion made us all hungry, we were delighted to head to the main restaurant, where we found buffets filled with appetising fresh products! I personally went all out on the blue marlins freshly fished the same day, either presented as sashimi with Japanese condiments, or grilled for an ever-tastier meal! No one could convince me that there would be any better way to start off a journey at the north of the Mauritius islands!

Regardless of the hour of the day, the central bar near the wonderful main swimming pool of the resort is the perfect place to go to for a refreshing drink, or a rum or international cocktail, all uniquely prepared and more importantly, extremely tasty. The dishes at the restaurant were particularly well presented and served, and the view over the Indian Ocean was a delight itself.

I had the chance to be offered a guided tour of the areas reserved to the toddlers and young children, and there is no doubt: Club Med thought of everything. From 4 months to 17 years old, all the children and teenagers can enjoy their own space with plenty of entertainers: treasure hunts, shows, dozens of creative activities, everyone can find what suits them the best to enjoy their time at the kids-club!

To put it simply, that building is a school on “holiday-mode”! The childminders are caring and supporting, the place is colourful and clean, and everyone seems to be enjoying it!

Besides their unquestionable expertise in terms of children’s entertainment, La Pointe aux Canonniers is ideally placed in an idyllic setting that is perfect for water activities. The Eurodivers club offers diving classes for all levels and to discover the underwater flora and fauna. The sailing club is well equipped, and the pier facing the amazing beach is the meeting point for anyone looking for sensational experiences, as the waterskiing sessions that are organised there really are sought after.

We had the chance for a day to embark on a catamaran, steered by the deft hand of the whole competent and sympathetic crew. We headed to the Gabriel islet, nestled right at the heart of an azure lagoon. After a whole afternoon spent snorkelling, we were surprised to learn that the embarkation actually had its own barbecue! We then proceeded to eat lobsters, served with a refreshing local beer, a true delicacy!

The Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers is by far one of the most beautiful resorts of the Mauritius island. It ideal location allows holidaymakers to easily enjoy excursions in the ocean, and the whole staff make everything in their power to guarantee you a joyful and unforgettable stay !

The areas dedicated to children and all the activities that are organised just for them are sensational, and parents definitely can enjoy moments between themselves during their stay.

And, last but not least, the food is excellent and the chefs offer you what nature makes best in this part of the world.

In other words, all there is left for you to do is to book your own stay!
